Blackburn to Lead Session on These Topics

In this interactive session, Barbara Blackburn will discuss the key elements of student motivation, ways to increase the level of student engagement in the classroom, and strategies for increasing rigor for all students.  Multiple examples for all grade levels and subject areas will be modeled.  Participants will have the opportunity to adapt activities for their own classrooms.

Participants will:

  • Understand the two key elements of student motivation: value and success.
  • Understand five ways to increase the level of student engagement in their classrooms.
  • Understand the meaning of rigor in the classroom as well as the practical ways to immediately increase rigor in their classrooms.
  • Apply an understanding of each of the three concepts (points 1-3) through adapting the modeled activities for use in their own settings (across content areas and grade levels).
  • Develop an action plan of the next steps to follow when returning to their own schools/classrooms.
