Our History

SHESC Was Formed in 1990

SHESC's main office located at 605 E. Crawford St. in Salina.

The Organization

The Smoky Hill Education Service Center was organized July 1, 1990. It is a consortium of more than 50 school districts in 25-counties, formed to cooperatively provide a variety of educational services to its participating members in a more cost-efficient and beneficial manner.

The Governance

A Board of Directors - composed of one board member from each of the SHESC "clusters" (a group of Charter school district members) - governs the Smoky Hill Education Service Center. A Superintendents Advisory Council advises the Board of Directors.

The Clientele

Smoky Hill Education Service Center provides staff development and services to more than 2,700 teachers and administrators. The increased knowledge and skills of teachers benefits for more than 31,000 students.

The Benefits

  1. Providing ongoing, quality, outcome-directed staff development in a variety of areas.
  2. Saving you money through a cooperative purchasing program.
  3. Offering consultation and services in curriculum development, assessment, and school improvement.
  4. Offering cooperative, cost-efficient services that are too difficult or expensive to support individually.
