  • Position Overview:

    High School Principal

    Smoky Hill Education Service Center (SHESC) is seeking a seasoned instructional leader and building principal for Lawrence Gardner High School, an accredited high school serving students at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex in Topeka. This is a full-time, 12-month contract reporting to the Executive Director of SHESC.

    Position Responsibilities Include:

    ·         Lead a comprehensive, standards-aligned educational program that meets diverse student needs and uses data to guide decision-making

    ·         Foster a collaborative environment with students and staff

    ·         Establish and maintain a positive and safe school climate

    ·         Champion effective discipline policies and procedures that promote a culture of respect and accountability

    ·         Recruit, hire, evaluate competent staff

    ·         Mentor staff to strengthen instruction and teamwork

    ·         Communicate effectively with all stakeholders

    ·         Oversee daily school operations

    ·         Maintain accurate reports and records

    ·         Performing other duties as assigned by Smoky Hill ESC leadership

    Qualifications:

    ·         Master’s degree in education or a related field

    ·         Valid Kansas building level administrator license

    ·         Minimum of 3 years as an educational leader, high school setting preferred

    ·         Experience working with adjudicated youth is desirable

    ·         Professionalism, dependability, and discretion in handling confidential information

    High School Counselor/Academic Coordinator

    ‍ Smoky Hill Education Service Center is seeking an experienced academic coordinator for Lawrence Gardner High School, an accredited high school serving students at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex in Topeka.  This is a full-time, 12-month contract reporting to the Principal.

    ‍ ‍‍Position Responsibilities Include:

    ‍ ·         Collaborate effectively with all education stakeholders

    ·         Develop student academic plans

    ‍ ·         Maintain student goal and graduation progress

    ‍ ‍·         Preserve accurate records and confidentiality

    ‍ ‍·         Coordinate school assessments

    ‍ ‍·         Conduct initial student meetings

    ‍ ‍·         Performing other duties as assigned by Smoky Hill ESC leadership

    ‍ ‍‍Qualifications:

    ‍·         Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field

    ‍ ‍·         Valid Kansas educator license

    ‍ ‍·         Minimum of 5 years as a teacher, high school setting preferred

    GED Instructor

    Smoky Hill Education Service Center is seeking a dedicated and passionate educator for the GED (General Educational Development) program within the Topeka Correctional Facility in Topeka, KS.   

    ‍‍Position Responsibilities Include:

    ‍ ‍·         Planning, developing, and implementing engaging lessons aligned with GED curriculum standards.

    ‍ ‍·         Assessing students' academic learning needs and develop supports for student learning

    ‍ ‍·         Providing individual/group instruction in core content areas

    ‍ ‍·         Adapting instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs

    ‍ ‍·         Maintaining a structured and supportive learning environment within the security guidelines of the correctional facility

    ‍ ·         Preparing students for official GED exams (e.g., test-taking strategies, practice assessments)

    ‍ ·         Collaborating with facility staff, administrators, and other agencies to ensure program success.

    ‍ ‍·         Tracking and reporting student attendance, performance, and outcomes

    ‍ ‍·         Encouraging students to build confidence, persistence, and motivation for learning

    ‍ ‍·         Ensuring compliance with all correctional facility regulations and policies regarding classroom management and safety

    ‍ ‍‍Qualifications:

    ‍ ‍·         Bachelor’s degree in education or related field

    ‍ ‍•        Strong instructional and classroom management skills

    ‍ ‍•        Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learning needs

    ‍ ‍•        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    ‍ ‍·         Experience teaching high school, GED, or adult education programs

    ‍ ‍·         Experience working with at-risk populations (e.g., correctional/alternative education)
